Hello everyone!
Welcome to the first post in my series of blog posts focused on travel in Korea!
If you are planning a trip to Korea, are currently travelling in Korea, or
are simply reading this post because you’re interested in Korean culture,
you’ve come to the right place!
I will be introducing some places for people who may want
recommendations from locals and people living in Korea.

.

.

Today’s focus will be on Yeonnam-dong!
Yeonnam-dong is a trendy neighborhood that many young people in Seoul frequent.
It has a variety of nice cafes, restaurants, and a grassy area
where many people picnic and enjoy outdoor activities.
Yeonnam-dong is perfect for if you want to see a side of Seoul
different from places like Hongdae, which is right across the street.

1. Gyeongui-Line Forest Park (경의선숲길)

.

When you get out of exit 3 at Hongik University station and
make your way into Yeonnam-dong, one of the first things you
will notice is the strip of grassy green in the middle of the street.
This grassy area, which stretches for 6.3km, is called
Gyeongui-Line Forest Park, popularly called Yeontral Park or the
Central Park of Seoul.

.

.
Many people from all around Seoul come to Yeonnam-dong to get
a breath of fresh air and a change of scenery from the fast paced city life.
The park is a perfect place for picnics with your family, friends,
or significant other.
You can buy food and drinks at one of the many nearby vendors,
rent bikes to ride along the park, or walk your furry friends!

.

Address: 147-89 Donggyo-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul

2. Their Coffee (데얼커피)

.
While picnicking at the Gyeongui-Line Forest Park, you may get a
little hungry or thirsty.
In that case, you may want to stop by Their Coffee!
Their Coffee is a cafe not far from the Gyeongui-Line Forest Park,
but what sets them apart from other cafes is their picnic sets.
Their picnic sets include food, drinks, and snacks that are perfect for a
picnic at Gyeongui-Line Forest Park.

.

.
What comes in the set, however, changes every month.
Be aware, you need to reserve a set in advance!
You can reserve a set by DMing their official Instagram and
setting up a pickup date and time.

.

Hours: 12:00PM~9:00PM
Closed on Thursdays

3. Gamchil (감칠)

.

Gamchil is a fusion style restaurant that serves pastas with a Korean twist.
Their pastas and risottos include traditional Korean ingredients,
such as fermented soybean paste or red pepper paste, which add Korean
flavors to their Western style foods.
Their most popular menu items are their Wild Chive Soybean Paste Cream
Pasta and their Red Pepper Paste Pork Belly Cream Pasta.
I personally enjoyed the Red Pepper Paste Pork Belly Cream Pasta, which
was a unique mix of creamy and spicy, a taste you won’t find
anywhere else.

.

Hours: 12:00PM~1:00AM
Address: 385-6, Yeonnam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul

4. 5NN5FF (온앤오프)

.

5NN5FF (pronounced On and Off) is a cafe with very modern style
decor and delicious desserts.
5NN5FF is known for their brownies, cutely decorated with frosting to
resemble a face, but their drinks and other desserts are equally yummy!
The cafe is decorated with neon purple lights and all white furniture and is
a perfect place to take pictures with a nice vibe.

.

Address: 228-32, Yeonnam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul

.

Dongjin Market is a traditional style market hidden in the streets of Yeonnam-dong.
Every weekend, there is a flea market that features handmade accessories
and trinkets by young local artists.
The market is small, but there is plenty to see, and you may find a one of a
kind accessory perfect for you!

.

Hours: Fridays-Sundays
Address: 198 Seongmisan-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul

Of course, there are many more options for places to see in Yeonnam-dong.
These were just a few of my picks from the Yeonnam-dong area that
I wanted to introduce.
Hopefully, this article provided options to satisfy your taste and helps a little with
planning your trip to Korea!
